Boeing manned spaceflight challenges
NASA’s decision to rely on SpaceX to retrieve two astronauts stranded on a Boeing Starliner spacecraft has raised concerns about Boeing’s role in manned spaceflight, according to Bank of America analyst Ronald Epstein.
“This move could negatively impact Boeing’s reputation with NASA, raising doubts about the company’s future in manned spaceflight,” Epstein remarked in a Monday note. He further suggested that Boeing may eventually exit the manned spaceflight business altogether.
Epstein pointed out NASA program manager Steve Stich’s comments about balancing technical expertise and experience, hinting at potential shortcomings in Boeing’s technical workforce. This adds to Boeing’s ongoing operational issues under new leadership, including challenges across its commercial and military aircraft programs.
Despite these concerns, Epstein maintained a “Neutral” rating for Boeing, with a 12-month price target of $200, implying a 14.3% potential upside for the stock as the company continues navigating through its challenges.
